I then did a classic test where you manually calibrate the altimeter to a value off the actual one, start an activity and hopefully auto calibration will adjust the altimeter. Coros worked well. Fenix 7 after 3:30 hours of the watch sitting in the window, with the GPS altimeter showing the correct altitude, never adjusted the barometric altimeter.
These have nothing to do with my problem. I don't want it to calibrate automatically during the night. Previous Fenix watches didn't do it. I want it to calibrate at start and during activity. Also, altimeter or barometer mode is a completely different topic.
Hello, today I upgraded the firmware with version 22.20, which promised better accuracy of the altimeter; Instead, I immediately realized that after the update the altimeter (which previously worked very well, with very rare errors) presented a series of malfunctions that I list here: 1- non-continuous but only sporadic updates: the watch indicates the same altitude for a certain time even
I noticed that my Fenix 3 HR got confused in climbing stairs but eventually I worked out that the issue is more about movement while climbing - it won’t see elevators or escalators if climbed stairs / storeys and I had noted that it saw me descending stairs quite accurately but seldom climbing, with a Little thought on the matter I concluded that my consistent use of the handrail on stairs
When I bought a used Garmin Fenix 5x, I first calibrated the barometer manually, in my place I set the barometric pressure accurately via accu weather. Then I saw on Google Earth (at the bottom right corner you have the coordinates and exact altitude!) manually calibrated the altitude.
Well like the previous poster, I talked to Garmin, and they deduced the barometric sensor was broken. They are doing a RMA for me. They provided a return shipping label and will send a replacement Fenix 5 (hopefully with a working barometric sensor). A bit of a drag since I had it only a month before it failed. Hopefully the new one doesn't fail.

RE: Fenix 5 - Altimeter/Barometer Major Issues There was a post on another forum that claims that previous way-points are used as part of the activity start elevation fix if available. For the Fenix 3, this was proved not to be the case.

Similar problems with MTB (where speed is less an issue, but elevation gains are more meaningful). With 4.20 on a 5 Plus Sapphire I experienced some improvement with the altimeter: round-trips show now the same elevation at the beginning and at the end of the ride (with 3.20 I had deviations of up to 250 meters after 3 hours!).
